Given how much time we spend in bed it’s important to have a space that feels calm and looks fabulous. Whether you want a bright, modern or cottage style room you can create the atmosphere and ambiance you desire relatively easily.
As with all decorating, the key is in the preparation so make sure you put time to doing it properly and don’t under estimate how long it will take. When clearing out the bedroom it’s also a good opportunity to de-clutter and get rid of those unwanted items. This will have the added advantage of making your room feel bigger as it contains less.
Neutral colours are calming and a great base to work with – bright cushions, curtains and blankets can give depth and colour to a neutral base. If at any point you decide to change your colour scheme, you don’t have to look at redecorating either. Accessorising with colour is the perfect way to alternate your colour scheme on a regular basis.
Wallpaper is great if a wall is uneven and can make a statement. You don’t have to go for the whole room, just one wall can have a huge impact on any room. Don’t be afraid to use the same colours that may appear elsewhere in the house, this will give the feel of one room flowing into another. If you have a favourite colour then use it.
Skirting boards don’t have to be white, you can pick out colour from the room and give them a lick of colour. The bedroom is a space to show your personality so go bright and bold, geometric, jazzy or wild – don’t be afraid to express yourself, after all it’s you who is going to sleep there!
